Recent changes & caveats
Launched 7 December 2024, replacing the Global Talent visa (it keeps the subclass 858 number) and effectively the only successor to the abolished Business Innovation and Investment Program for high-calibre talent and investors. It now sits inside the new 'Talent and Innovation' Migration Program category (4,300 places for 2025-26, which also absorbs legacy Global/Distinguished Talent cases). Deliberately small and highly selective: as at May 2025 about 6,400 EOIs had been received but only ~130 invitations issued. An EOI does not guarantee an invitation.
