Eligibility requirements
- Have recently completed an approved New Zealand qualification
- Apply within 3 to 12 months after the student visa expires (window depends on qualification type)
- Have at least NZD $5,000 available for living expenses
- For level 7 non-degree or lower qualifications, the work and qualification must be on the eligible list and related to the field of study

Recent changes & caveats
Degree-level (level 7 bachelor's and above) graduates get an open work visa; sub-degree and non-degree level 7 graduates get a field-restricted visa. Holders can study up to 3 months per 12-month period.
